Champion Chase honours for Tara Royal

Kayf Tara seven-year-old triumphs at Musselburgh
11 February 2012

Kayf Tara seven-year-old Tara Royal, posted a polished round of jumping to win Saturday’s Scottish Champion Chase at Musselburgh by four-and-half lengths.

Trained by Donald McCain for Tim Leslie, this was the fourth victory for the gelding, who has also won a point-to-point and over hurdles and could now be heading to the Grand Annual Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

Tara Royal, a half-brother to Grade 2-winning chaser Wishfull Thinking, was bred by Robin and Scarlett Knipe’s Cobhall Court Stud. He is out of the French-bred Garde Royale mare Poussetiere Deux.

With a 42% winning strike rate for his runners over fences, Kayf Tara is Britain’s leading National Hunt sire for the 2011/12 jumps season and lies in seventh position overall for active jumps sires in Britain and Ireland.
