Bertolini’s no April fool

Good month sees the Overbury sire off the mark with his juveniles and featuring as broodmare sire of a Classic winner 17 April 2012

Only a handful of sires have been represented by a two-year-old winner this early in the Flat season but, as usual, Bertolini is among them, with his son Baddilini scoring over five furlongs at Windsor on 16 April.

The bay colt is a full-brother to Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes-placed Uvinza, the pair being out of Baddi Heights, by Shirley Heights, and bred by Alison Ruggles.

The previous week, Bertolini’s first-crop Group 1 winner Donna Blini also became a Group 1 producer when her daughter by Deep Impact, Gentildonna, won the Oka Sho (Japanese 1,000 Guineas) at Hanshin. She also won the Group 3 Sho Shinzan Kinen back in January.

Six-year-old mare Avonlini has proved worth persisting with and she won again for her owner/breeder J H Chrimes when taking the six-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton on 14 April.
