Bertolini damsire of dual Classic winner

Gentildonna adds the Japanese Oaks to her 1,000 Guineas success 21 May 2012

Japan’s leading three-year-old filly Gentildonna landed her second Classic in style on Sunday with a five-length victory in the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks).

By Deep Impact, an impressive young son of Sunday Silence, Gentildonna is out of Bertolini’s first-crop heroine Donna Blini, winner of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes in 2005 for Brain Meehan.

Donna Blini was bought by Katsumi Yoshida for 500,000gns at Tattersalls in 2006 and her first two foals are both now black-type winners.

Earlier this year Donau Blue won the Group 3 Kyoto Himba Stakes and was runner-up in the Group 1 Victoria Mile, but her achievements have been surpassed by her year-younger full-sister, who won the Group 3 Sho Shinzan Kinen en route to her success in the Oka Sho (1,000 Guineas) then Yushun Himba.

Gentildonna has now won four of her six starts and the equivalent of £1,002,325 in prize-money.
