Grade 1 quinella for Bertolini in India

Vijays Pride and Portia take first and second in the Fillies’ Championship Stakes 19 June 2012

Two Bertolini fillies bought in utero at the Goffs November Sale in 2008 have followed the same path to India, where they were both foaled and are now stakes winners.

Vijays Pride led home her paternal half-sister Portia in the Grade 1 Fillies’ Championship Stakes over a mile at Bangalore on Sunday, gaining the upper hand by just half a length over the co-favourite.

Portia had won the Grade 2 Juvenile Million, also at Banagalore, on 27 May.

Sadly, Vijays Pride’s owner/breeder Dodla Pratap Chandra Reddy died just a fortnight ago. He had bought her dam, the Red Ransom mare Designer Chic, through Century Bloodstock for €10,500 and was intending to add Vijays Pride to his burgeoning broodmare band at his new stud venture in Hyderabad.

Portia’s dam Pescara, by Common Grounds, was bought by agent Hugo Merry for €11,000.
