14 July 2012

John Louis, a four-year-old gelding by Bertolini, won the final race of Newmarket's July Festival, the mile-and-a-half Celebrating Newmarket Historic Home Of Horseracing Handicap to claim his second successive victory at the track.

Trained by Charlie McBride for Four Winds Racing and bred by Wood Farm Stud, John Louis also won twice on the all-weather, at Lingfield and Kempton, earlier this year.

Having been put up 6lbs for his win on 9 June, he won his most recent start off a mark of 83, making all at a decent gallop to sustain the advantage by half a length.

After his victory, McBride indicated that the competitive Ebor Handicap at York's August meeting could be the next target for John Louis.
