Grade 2 winner for Kayf Tara

Mozoltov books his ticket to the Cheltenham Festival; old favourite Carruthers back in the winner’s enclosure 4 February 2013

Kayf Tara enjoyed a fruitful weekend with rising star Mozoltov advertising his claims for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival with victory in the G2 Racing UK Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old – a €130,000 purchase at three – has now won four of his seven starts and has never finished out of the first three, including when third in the G1 Champion Bumper at last season’s Punchestown Festival.

Ten-year-old Carruthers recorded his second victory of the season and ninth of his career when winning the 3m4f handicap chase at Ffos Las in the hands of Nico de Boinville on Saturday. The 2011 Hennessy Gold Cup winner was described in the Racing Post as having posted “as gutsy a performance as you’ll see” when winning by two and a quarter lengths in heavy ground.

Also on the scoresheet at Ffos Las was Kaylif Aramis, the six-year-old brother to Kayf Tara's versatile Cheltenham Festival winner Kayf Aramis. Bred by Isobel Phipps Coltman, Kaylif Aramis has been placed four times in bumpers and hurdle races and posted his first victory in the 2m4f handicap hurdle, while his big brother was third at Wetherby on the same day.

The four-time winner Fentara, now eight, was also in action at Wetherby on Saturday and she earned some valuable black type when third in the G2 Towton Novices’ Chase behind Goulanes and Super Duty.
