Pipe nominates The Package as his main Grand National hope

Kayf Tara ten-year-old the pick of the stable’s for entries in the race 13 February 2013

The team at Pond House Stables in Somerset knows a thing or two about how to win the Grand National, with Miinnehoma having won the race in 1994 for Martin Pipe and Comply Or Die winning in 2008 for David Pipe.

So when David says of his four entries in the 2013 Grand National, "The Package is the obvious one", it’s worth taking note.

In his comments to the Racing Post following Tuesday’s Grand National weights lunch, the trainer added: "His Hennessy form is rock solid. If we can get him back to that he must have a chance."

Kayf Tara’s son The Package, now 10, finished fourth to Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Bobs Worth in the Hennessy Gold Cup in November and made a cracking start to the season when winning the Listed Badger Ales Trophy at Wincanton. He has now won four races and a total of £134,148 in prize-money for owner David Johnson.

Kayf Tara, the leading British-based jumps sire, is currently sixth on the table of active National Hunt sires in Britain and Ireland.
