Delegator covers his first mare

Overbury new boy gets his first stud season underway 13 February 2013

First-season stallion Delegator has successfully covered his first mare at Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire.

The seven-year-old son of Dansili is expected to cover between 100 and 110 mares in his inaugural season in Gloucestershire and is proving to be a real favourite with the team at Overbury.

“He’s settled in really well, we couldn’t be happier with him,” said manager Simon Sweeting. “He’s a really easy horse to deal with. We took him to Newmarket last week to show him to breeders at Tattersalls for the February Sale and he behaved beautifully.

“We’re delighted with the response we’ve had since his arrival here. He’s a good-looking horse who is letting down really well so I’m delighted that breeders have taken the time to come to see him.”

Delegator, who raced for four consecutive seasons, initially for Brian Meehan and then Godolphin, won five of his 19 starts, including the Craven Stakes, and was second to Sea The Stars in the 2,000 Guineas before finishing just a quarter of a length behind Mastercraftsman in the St James’ Palace Stakes. He possessed speed to match his class and won the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes over six furlongs as a five-year-old.
