Tara Rose blossoms for Listed success

Kayf Tara mare lands EBF/TBA Mares’ Novices Chase Finale 18 April 2013

Eight-year-old Tara Rose landed her fifth and most important victory to date with a hard-fought win over Valmari in the Listed EBF/TBA Mares’ Novices’ Chase Finale at Cheltenham on Thursday.

Always in the leading pack, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained daughter of Kayf Tara made her move after the last fence and battled gamely up the hill for a three-quarter length success.

Already a winner of a bumper and two hurdles, Tara Rose was successful on her most recent prior outing over fences at Bangor, winning a 2m2f novice handicap chase by five lengths in the hands of Sam Twiston-Davies.

Bred by Miss S J Turner, she is the first foal of the Roselier mare True Rose, a two-mile hurdle winner from a good French jumping family. Tara Rose cost just £3,000 when sold as an unraced four-year-old at Brightwells but has rewarded her connections for taking the chance on racing a mare with earnings of just over £30,000 plus valuable black type for her most recent success.

Tara Rose continues a particularly successful run for Kayf Tara, who has enjoyed two trebles and a double in the last week hard on the heels of Special Tiara’s Grade 1 victory in the Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree.
