Grade 2 victory for Blaklion

Kayf Tara five-year-old impresses in Persian War Novices' Hurdle
25 October 2014

The wraps are coming off the 2014/15 National Hunt season and Britain’s champion jumps sire Kayf Tara has not been slow in getting his name in lights with a Grade 2 victory on Saturday for his five-year-old son Blaklion.

Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies for The New One’s owners Sarah Such and CG Paletta, Blaklion has won his last five starts – including all four of his races under Rules.

His first win came in a point-to-point at Tinahely in January before he made his bumper debut at Ffos Las in March. He scored his second bumper success at Haydock and progressed to win a novice hurdle at Perth in September.

Sent off at 8/1 in the G2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle, Blaklion was prominent throught the 2m4f contest before going into a clear lead after the seventh flight of hurdles and staying on strongly to win by a length and three-quarters.

Out of the Legend Of France mare Franciscaine, and a half-brother to jumps winners Francis du Mesnil and Francesca, Blaklion was bred in Britain by Mary Morrison.
