Trio of winners for leading sire Kayf Tara

Chomba Womba's first foal Chocca Wocca impresses on debut
17 December 2014

Kayf Tara is well on the way to his sixth championship and his terrific season continued in style on Wednesday with a treble at Ludlow and Newbury.

Value At Risk got the ball rolling when securing his third victory, and first over hurdles, for owner/breeder D Huglin at Newbury. The five-year-old won two bumpers and was placed in the Grade 1 Champion bumper at Punchestown last season for Philip Fenton before returning to the UK to be trained by Dan Skelton, for whom he was making his debut. Out of the Midlands National winner Miss Orchestra, Value At Risk is a half-brother to Grade 2-winning hurdler Battlecry.

Later at Ludlow, the final two races of the day both fell to Kayf Tara’s offspring when five-year-old mare Tara Mist added a novice hurdles victory to her bumper success of the previous year. Trained by Henry Daly, she has never finished out of the first three in five starts, and was third in the Listed mares’ bumper at Aintree on Grand National day, behind another daughter of Kayf Tara, Avispa, who won the race for Alan King.

Bringing the curtain down on the day’s proceedings was debutante Chocca Wocca, the first foal of high-class hurdler Chomba Womba, who won her bumper by four lengths. Owned and bred by Richard and Lizzie Kelvin-Hughes, the four-year-old filly is trained by Nicky Henderson.
