War Sound dazzles on debut

Kayf Tara gelding strikes with 12-length novice hurdle success
2 January 2015

Kayf Tara started the new year in the way he finished the old one, with a New Year's Day double and yet another impressive young winner to his name.

War Sound is a name we're likely to hear more of in the future if his first-time-out win at Exeter for Philip Hobbs is anything to go by, with the six-year-old gelding having won the 2m3f novice hurdle by 12 lengths from the odds-on favourite Southfield Royale.

Bred by Shaunagh Addinsell and Diana Blunt, War Sound is out of Come The Dawn, a Gunner B half-sister to Kayf Tara’s Grade 1 winner Planet Of Sound, as well as the talented From Dawn To Dusk.

Kayf Tara’s second winner of the new year was Racing Europe, who won the 3m1f novice hurdle at Catterick, his second victory for trainer Brian Ellison, having also won a bumper in November following an Irish point-to-point victory the previous year.
