Century up for Kayf Tara

Britain's champion National Hunt sire hits the 100-win mark for the season with War Sound
7 March 2015

Landing the second victory of his career from just three starts, War Sound brought up the 100-win tally for the season for his sire Kayf Tara at Chepstow on Saturday.

Bred by Shaunagh Adinsell and Diana Blunt, War Sound won on his hurdles debut on New Year’s Day at Exeter and, following a fifth-place finish in Listed company back at the same course, added to his winning record with a six-length strike over two miles in Wales. Now six, he is out of a half-sister to Kayf Tara’s Grade 1 winner Planet Of Sound and, like him, is trained by Philip Hobbs.

With jump racing’s most anticipated extravaganza about to get underway on Tuesday, Britain’s champion National Hunt sire will be well represented at the Cheltenham Festival. His runners include Grade 1 winners Lieutenant Colonel in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and Special Tiara in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, while fans of Kayf Tara’s Hennessy Gold Cup winner Carruthers can look forward to seeing his dual-winning full-brother Flintham in action in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.

Just over a week ago Kayf Tara’s progeny prize-money tally for the season exceeded £1 million for the second year running. So far this season, he has sired 73 individual winners of 100 races at a strike-rate of 29 per cent.
