More accolades for Kayf Tara at TBA NH Awards

Britain’s leading jumps sire wins the Horse & Hound Cup and Whitbread Silver Salver

Overbury Stud was fully involved in the TBA National Hunt Awards at Doncaster on Monday evening, both as sponsor of the award for the leading chase mare and as a dual recipient of awards for resident stallion Kayf Tara.

Well established as Britain’s leading National Hunt sire, Kayf Tara was awarded the Whitbread Silver Salver for the eighth consecutive season for the leading active British-based stallion by progeny earnings, and he also notched a fifth Horse & Hound Cup for being the leading active sire ny number of individual chase winners.

Two of Kayf Tara’s offspring were also recognised on the night, with Thistlecrack’s breeders Robin and Scarlett Knipe receiving the Highflyer Bloodstock Trophy for leading chaser while the promising young Thyme Hill, bred by Overbury Stallions, won the Distillery Stud Trophy for leading National Hunt Flat Horse.

The awards ceremony is held on the eve of the May sale at Goffs UK and Kayf Tara was very quickly at the forefront of proceedings at Doncaster, too. At the time of writing, the most expensive filly of the day was his three-year-old daughter out of the Grade 2-placed Robin Des Champs mare R de Rien Sivola, who was bought by £56,000 by trainer and breeder Tom Symonds.

He said of his acquisition: “She’s by Kayf Tara and his reputation precedes him. She’s got loads of scope and a really good walk to her.”
