Stakes win for Suits Me 11/02/09

Bertolini six-year-old Suits Me has carved a reputation for being thoroughly tough and durable and so he proved again on Tuesday when making all to win in the Listed Mill Wood Winter Open Stakes at Lingfield over ten furlongs.

The contest saw him reverse the places with another consistent yardstick, Dansant, who had the edge on Suits Me in the Listed Quebec Stakes at the same track in December. Prior to that, the Tom Tate-trained gelding from Bertolini’s first crop had won four on the bounce in just over a month. In total, he has now won 11 races and been placed on 12 occasions.

While his most recent victory may have come in a contest with just three competitors - two of the five declared runners were withdrawn on race day - there’s no questioning the form. Dansant has won five Listed races in his lucrative career but could not peg back Suits Me, who was given a positive, front-running ride by a confident Micky Fenton, the partnership forging on strongly even when challenged close home.

Suits Me, who was a 7,000gns yearling at Tattersalls October sale, is a son of the Lion Cavern mare Fancier Bit and was bred by R S A Urquhart. He was subsequently bought by his current trainer for 17,000gns as a three-year-old at Doncaster’s horses-in-training sale.
