Clan gathers another G2 win for Kayf Tara 26/02/09

Kayf Tara seven-year-old Clan Tara made all when securing a brave victory in the G2 Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle at Thurles on Thursday.

Wearing the Gigginstown House Stud colours made famous by Gold Cup hero War Of Attrition, the Paul Nolan-trained gelding posted an impeccable round of jumping en route to his third win under rules. Since scoring in a point-to-point for his breeder Don Cantillon, who trains in Newmarket, Clan Tara has made six starts, finishing placed on each other occasion.

Don Cantillon was also responsible for the early success of another Kayf Tara gelding, Like Minded, who won a bumper earlier in the season and sold for £100,000 at Brightwells’ Cheltenham Sale in November. Now with Paul Nicholls, the five-year-old was recently flagged up in the Champion trainer’s Racing Post column as one of his ‘pigeon catchers’.

Clan Tara is the fifth of Kayf Tara’s offspring to win at Grade Two level, following the chasing success this season of Carruthers and Kornati Kid and the hurdling victory of Tarablaze. Mad Max, one of the leading fancies for the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, won a G2 bumper at Newbury last season
