Zafeen recorded his second winner of the campaign when his daughter Grand Zafeen scored by half a length in the five-furlong fillies’ maiden at Pontefract on Monday in the colours formerly carried by both her sire and dam.

Owned and bred by Jaber Abdullah under the Rabbah Bloodstock banner, the chestnut is trained by Mick Channon, who masterminded the career of Zafeen, which included victories in the Mill Reef Stakes at two and the St James’s Palace Stakes a year later, and the filly’s dam, the dual Group Three winner Majestic Desert, by Fraam.

Grand Zafeen has elevated Zafeen to second place in the first-season sires’ table following the success of Zafeereli at Saint-Cloud last Monday.
