Tattersalls Ireland’s National Hunt Sale runs from 9 to 13 November and features a host of foals by Kayf Tara emanating from some of the best jumping families in the studbook.
Twenty-five weanlings are catalogued to sell at Fairyhouse and they include lot 948, a colt from Richard and Sally Aston’s Goldford Stud out of Aunt Rita (Grand Lodge), who is a half-sister to the multiple top-class jumps winner Celibate and G3 hurdler Balla Sola.
The Bowe family have enjoyed many boom days on the racecourse with their homebreds Limestone Lad and Sweet Kiln and lot 645, a colt out of Gales Hill, hails from this highly successful family.
Majestic Run has produced four multiple winners to the late Zaffaran, including the G2-winning steeplechaser Heltornic, whose full-sister Glenmoss Tara, a five-time winner herself, is the dam of lot 895, a colt by Kayf Tara consigned by Cleaboy Stud and Coppice Farm.
Stephen and Louise Kemble of The Elms Stud consign a half-brother to Bellator (lot 488), a G2 winner over hurdles and fences, while Moorpark Stud sell the first foal of Kylie Kaprice, a half-sister to Evan Williams’ top-class chaser State Of Play (lot 1000).
Lot 667 is out of Land Of Glory, a Supreme Leader half-sister to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner See More Business while other well-related foals include those from the families of yet another Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Garrison Savannah (lot 416), Exotic Dancer (lot 1102), Triumph Hurdle winner Shawiya (lot 934) and G1 winner Watson Lake (lot 570).
The bay colt selling as lot 724 is a very close relation to Kayf Tara’s high-class hurdler Venalmar, being out of his Pennekamp half-sister Miami Explorer.
The first foal of the Anshan mare Corrieann, who won a bumper and was also successful over hurdles and fences, forms part of the Galberstown Stud draft and is lot 979, while lot 933 is a filly out of the Listed-winning hurdler winner Blue Ride (King’s Ride). Mill House Stud consign a Kayf Tara yearling and foal out of another multiple hurdles winner, Champagne Lil (Terimon), whose weanling sells as lot 908 and her yearling (now a gelding and one of only two Kayf Tara yearlings in the sale) is lot 187.

Sadly the Hawk wing yearling filly had to put down 24 hours after her operation. She was in alot of pain which the vets couldn't reduce with drugs so they felt it was best to put her out of her misery. Although we are now left with just a very large bill for her care at least I know that everything that could have been done was done.
We are also going to be looking for a new permenant member of staff this autumn as Vikki Chorley is leaving us after 4 years to ride eventers. Vikki was in charge of one of the yards so is a senior member of staff and I expect will be hard to replace.

After reporting some Overbury bred winners last week we are now experiencing the flipside of breeding (or generally looking after livestock).
The yearling out of Flying Finsh - a filly by Hawk Wing - showed signs of colic on monday. She was checked by a vet who gave some pain killer and muscle relaxant. There was no sign of a twisted gut and she settled back to normal very quickly. All was well until wednesday morning when she again showed signs of colic, but this time her heart rate and temperature where raised. She went straight into the vets clinic where an infection in her gut - peritonitis - was confirmed. We had hoped that a heavy dose of antibiotisc might cure the problem but this morning she sickened quite rapidly. The vets advice was then there was no choise other than to operate and hope to find a problem. I have just been told that they have found an abscess on the outside of the gut which will have to be removed. Chance of sucess is rated at less than 50% and the operation is an expensive one. The only good thing is that if she survives there shouldn't be any recurring problems as a result of this.
In the meantime we just have to wait and hope.
(I'm away until the end of next week but will give a follow up on my return).
