Ballymount strikes in France.

Cityscape’s first runner Ballymount, trained by Eoghan O’Neill, sprung wings close home to win a maiden race in France on Prix du Jockey-Club day. The chestnut, who was a €14,000 yearling purchase was beaten just over a length when fourth on his debut last week, flying at the finish, and needed every yard of the 1,200m trip this time, winning the €13,000 contest at Senonnes-Pouance by a short-head.

‘I’m delighted with him!, said winning trainer O’Neill. ‘He got home after his race last week, slept for two days then came out bucking and kicking. He was begging to race again! It’s nice to have one like him, a precocious two-year-old who can stay seven furlongs this early in the season. There’s a Classe 1 race for him in a fortnight at Saint-Cloud over 1,400m, and that’ll help us decide if he can keep climbing up the ladder.’
